Come in. The bread’s resting.

I’m Melissa, rooted in the Midwest and I want to love the home I have. I’m guessing you do too. I’ve always felt that way, whether I lived in an apartment or a teensy house or the very standard home with a small-ish yard that I live in now.

Be forewarned, this blog is a bit of a historian’s notebook disguised as a lifestyle blog. I don’t know everything, but I do love collecting information and folk wisdom. The word folk is democratic. This is about the people. It’s recipes written on index cards, garden sayings, nursery rhymes, May flower crowns, and why my Grandma planted gooseberries even though the birds ate half of them.

Here you’ll find what’s growing in the garden, what’s baking in the kitchen, and the small traditions that hold a season together. Written by a human.

Inspired by Carl and Karin Larsson’s home in Sweden, Lilla Hyttnäs, I’m working on creating a colorful home that’s meant to be lived in. I love a home with things gathered over time and a wee garden in the back or on the balcony. Nothing needs to be perfectly coordinated, just enjoyed. Some things are handmade, some things are bought, some things are found or gifted.

The bread should be done by now. I hope you stay a while.
